1957, ce mois de mars, ARMAN n'a pas encore 29 ans.
C'est la sortie de ce qu'il qualifie "une sale période"...
Eliane, sa femme, vient de passer presque une année en sanatorium.
Première lourde séparation, avec les trois enfants de 6, 4 et 3 ans, dont la deuxième vient de subir une importante intervention chirurgicale, qu'il faut gérer.
Ses parents ont eu un très grave accident de voiture.
Goutte qui fait déborder le vase, il doit euthanasier son Farouk de chien...

Est ce la raison qui l'incite si jeune à rédiger son testament?
Face au constat de l'impermanence des choses.

Volontés à la mesure de ses avoirs: à l'époque, il pêchait la nuit au harpon pour pouvoir nous nourrir...
La formulation de ses volontés fait reflet à la richesse de son lien à la poétique: passion des mots et de l'écriture, qui ne l'a jamais quitté.

March 1957, ARMAN is not yet 29 years old. It is the end of what he qualifies as “a rough time”…
Eliane, his wife, has just spent almost a year in a sanatorium.
First big separation from her and from his three children then 6, 4 and 3 years old, with the second one having just undergone a serous surgical intervention, that needed a close follow up.
His parents have had a very bad car accident.
And the drop that overflowed the cup, he had to put his dog Farouk to death…

Is this why being so young he decided to write a will?
Facing with the reality of impermanency of all things.

His will is in line with his wealth: at the time, he was harpoon fishing at night to nourish us…
The wording in this will reflects the richness of his link to poetry: a passion for words and writing, which he kept forever.

En cas d'interruption dans la fonction phénoménale et primordiale, quant à une représentation matérielle de mon existence, fonction plus connue sous l'appellation d'efforts soutenus et désespérés pour subsister. Je désire que sans discussion et sans partage ma femme ait la jouissance de tous mes biens passés présents et à venir.

In the event of an interruption in the phenomenal and paramount function with respect to the material representation of my existence, function better known with the name of constant and desperate efforts to keep alive, I wish that without discussion and without division my wife has full possession and use of all my past, present and future wealth.

2000, ce mois de février est opéré le passage du siècle, ARMAN est devenu l'artiste de renom que l'on sait.
Sa famille et ses biens se sont décuplés.
Il vient de traverser quelques sales coups du destin: après la mort de son fils aîné, son cancer du rein; après la mort de son père, son grave accident cardiaque.

Comme les écrits restent, il écrit en entier de sa main.
Ici, pas de pages dactylographiées non attachées ensemble et non paraphées, pas de reconstitution après coup à devoir retracer.
Il pose chaque mot et fait comme chaque fois que c'est important pour lui: il confie la trace pour que... ses volontés soient faites.

Ceci pour dire:
Il savait bien ce qu'il voulait.
Il n'a oublié personne.
Il a pris la précaution de préserver la traçabilité et demander promesse d'en prendre soin.

Ce 18 Avril 2005, il faudrait croire qu'il aurait changé d'avis sans prévenir d'une question aussi importante?

La justice nous le dira.
Tout de suite, tant qu'elle n'a pas statué, cela ne change rien.
Evidement et selon, ensuite, cela change TOUT.

February 2000, the passage of the century has just gone, ARMAN became the artist of reputation everybody knows.
His family and his goods have been multiplied.
He just went through some rough hits from destin y: after the death of his elder son, his kidney cancer; after the death of his father, his grave heart disease.

Because writings remain, he wrote by hand this will in its entirety.
Here no typed, unbound and not initialed pages, no reconstitution done afterwards having to retrace.
He poses each word and does what he has always done for things that mattered to him: he leaves the trace so that… his will be done.

This is to say:
He knew exactly what he wanted.
He did not forget anybody.
He took care of protecting the traceability and asked for a promise to take good care of this.

This day of April 18th 2005, one would have to believe he changed his mind without informing on such an important matter?

Justice will let us know.
For now, as long as it has not ruled, nothing is changed.
Of course and depending on it, then it may ALL change.
